Beyond Gender

Exploring gender through an intercultural and intergenerational approach

Beyond Gender aims to promote an active dialogue about affective and sexual life, gender identities, and sexual orientations questions, between different generations.

For three years and half, five European associations (in France, Spain and the Netherlands) develop pedagogical material to deconstruct stereotypes related to gender, age and social and cultural background. To facilitate discussions between the different generations and to enable free expression, the activities developed during the project are inspired by popular education, intercultural pedagogy, as well as artistic and cultural mediation.

The project is addressed to the public of all ages, because there is no age to savor the affective and sexual life and to explore gender identities and sexual orientations. Our pedagogical material is also destined for education or training professionals, to make them feel empowered and equipped to approach these subjects with their public.

Videos

In this section you will find the videos created within the framework of the Beyond Gender project, which include step-by-step guided practical activities and training content open to the public.

Body archives

Step-by-step description of the “Body Archives” exercise in group facilitation contexts. This activity explores the relationship between body, gender, and health. It involves free movement activation from the spine and improvisation across different movement levels.

Exploring intersectionality

Step-by-step description of the “Exploring Intersectionality” exercise, used in group facilitation. This activity introduces the concept of intersectionality through reflection on privilege. Participants are guided through an introspective process to identify how different dimensions (gender, origin, class, orientation, etc.) influence their social position.

From Image Theatre to Forum Theatre

Step-by-step description of the “From Image Theatre to Forum Theatre” exercise, applied in group facilitation contexts. This activity offers practical tools to collaboratively build a theatrical sequence evolving from static images to a Forum Theatre scene. It allows participants to explore social conflicts through the body and foster reflection and dialogue from a participatory perspective.

Conference: Trans and Sexual Childhoods | Conversation based on the series El Secreto del Río

Video of the conference organized by the association ACATHI, in collaboration with La Xixa, within the Beyond Gender project. The event featured the screening of the first two episodes of the Mexican series El Secreto del Río by director Alex Zuno, which portrays the experiences of the trans community and the Muxes in a Mexican village.
