November to create, share and transform

This month comes full of gatherings that invite us to act, reflect, and celebrate the power of theatre and community art.

Our beloved Intercultural Forum Theatre Masterclass is back, we close another module of the Escola La Xixa project, share some details about the projects we’re currently involved in, and keep bringing forum theatre to squares, markets, and communities across Catalonia with La Xixa Lab performances.

November means Intercultural Forum Theatre Masterclass

ree

In November, one of La Xixa’s most anticipated events returns: the Intercultural Forum Theatre Masterclass.

Three days to explore, share, and create around topics that affect us as a community: interculturality, equality, anti-racism, social justice, and a just ecological transition.

During the gathering, we’ll celebrate the closing of the Annual Training in Intercultural Forum Theatre, along with workshops, talks, and dialogue spaces where diversity and creativity will take center stage.

A living experience to inspire, connect, and transform together!

Escola La Xixa

Between texts and scenes: this was Module 2 of the Escola La Xixa project

ree

From October 24 to 26, Module 2: Create to Transform of the Escola La Xixa project took place—an intensive journey through dramaturgy, directing, and facilitating stories that challenge and open dialogue. Over three days at L’Occulta | Cooperativa Cultural, we explored how to write and rewrite stories born from real conflicts, turning text and scene into engines of collective reflection.

Through exercises in active listening, co-writing, and analysis of power roles, participants immersed themselves in the practice of forum theatre and the role of the Joker, discovering tools to guide and spark debate with the audience. The experience was highly enriching and full of enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of fostering spaces for critical and inclusive dialogue.

We continue creating, transforming, and opening paths for theatre to be a space for gathering and reflection!

YSI-ACT Project

Youth in Action: Forum Theatre Presentation in Barcelona

ree

On September 19, young people from Spain, Cyprus, Finland, and Bulgaria took part in the Youth in Action Camp of the European YSI-ACT project, held in Barcelona. The initiative, led by La Xixa Teatre, YEU Cyprus, Active Bulgarian Society, and Laurea UAS, aims to foster creativity, youth participation, and intercultural exchange while promoting values of solidarity and inclusion.

The week concluded with the final presentation of forum theatre pieces co-created by the young participants themselves, where they reflected their ideas, concerns, and proposals on the topics addressed, leaving attendees and participants with new perspectives and motivation to continue driving the field forward.

Ašun Me Project

Promoting cooperation among Roma youth through art and community participation

ree

The European project Ašun Me was born with a clear purpose: to provide participation tools for Roma youth and strengthen their collaboration with youth workers and public policy officials.

Through digital storytelling as a tool for social advocacy, Ašun Me seeks to enable young people from the Roma community to express their experiences, act as spokespersons for their communities, and actively participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives.

By fostering meaningful dialogue through artistic expression, the project aims to bridge the gap between Roma communities facing social exclusion and the institutional frameworks that influence their lives. Ašun Me brings together a consortium of six organizations across Europe, each with relevant experience in social inclusion, non-formal education, and advocacy work: Asociatia Centrul Pentru Legislatie Nonprofit (Romania, Coordinator), Symplexis (Greece), La Xixa Teatre (Spain), Institut für Roma und Minderheiten e.V. (Germany), Roma Resource Center Skopje (North Macedonia), Jen Janus Education CLG (Ireland).

Its objectives are:

  • Promote collaboration between Roma youth and local youth staff.

  • Encourage youth participation in public policies and in sharing their experiences through digital storytelling.

  • Create spaces for dialogue with decision-makers.

  • Promote civic and democratic participation from an inclusive perspective.

  • Develop educational tools and artistic content to share Roma perspectives locally and across Europe.

Over two years, Ašun Me will develop:

  • A methodological manual and a training program for Roma youth.

  • Workshops and roundtables in various European countries.

  • An artistic kit for creating short documentary films.

  • Campaigns and awareness-raising materials to promote social change..

From Barcelona, La Xixa Teatre collaborates with organizations such as Fagic and Servei Nou Barris, promoting active participation of the Roma community in cultural and social spaces.
