Since 2023, La Xixa, with the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Xarxa de Consum Solidari, and the Senegalese organization Réseau Siggil Jigéen, has been working on a project aimed at raising awareness of and strengthening women’s rights in Senegal: Accés al Registre Civil, amb EGiBDH, i a una vida lliure de violències a Dakar, Senegal.
As part of this initiative, we have created a virtual exhibition titled Drets, resistències i vida lliure de violències a Dakar, Senegal, which brings together photographs and videos featuring interviews with women leaders, entrepreneurs, activists, and role models who drive positive change in their communities. Thanks to the work of photographer and videographer Angel Cristi Berrios, these stories come to life, showcasing resilience, leadership, and social transformation, and will soon be shared through a traveling exhibition organized in collaboration with the Xarxa de Consum Solidari.
The project has three main objectives:
Raise awareness about gender-based violence by sharing stories of resilience from women who fight against various forms of violence and discrimination.
Highlight the transformative role of women in Senegalese society by presenting examples of leadership, entrepreneurship, and activism.
Build support networks and foster local and international awareness by promoting dialogue among organizations, associations, and entities committed to women’s and children’s rights.
The touring exhibition will take place in public spaces in Barcelona, such as the mercats de pagès, where the Xarxa de Consum Solidari and La Xixa are already active, bringing these stories to diverse audiences and raising awareness about this important issue.
